| Caracas | Flight from Caracas to Brazil? Posted: Thu December 7, 2006 04:13 AM UTC
Anyone know of an airline that flies from caracas to just over the border in Brazil(Boa Vista or Manaus or anywhere else that would be cheap). I am looking to get a TAM or Varig airpass and just need to get into Brazil from Venezuela to use it to get to Rio.
I know that I could bus from Caracas to the border but it seems long and maybe somewhat dangerous. It doesnt seem like any of the Venezuelan airlines fly direct to Brazil and the connecting flight are very expensive. Any help would be appreciated. thanks |

There are no cheap flights on those routes. You do know that the Air Pass cannot be purchased in Brasil don't you?

If you go to Ciudad Bolivar, you can probably get a flight, but I'm not familiar with airline details. As far as buses go, if you can catch a bus at the border to Boa Vista, I think that would be a great way to go. My experience with Venezuelan bus system is good. I know that occasionally in the news one hears about a bus that has crashed or all passengers systematically robbed, but considering the overall traffic having this happen to your bus would be very unlikely. The drivers are good and the security adequate for first class The trip through La Gran Sabana would be worth the risk, and final arrival at Boa Vista a commendable adventure acheivement.

Thanks for the replies.
Seems like the bus would be an alright option but not I dont have enough time on this trip. Gonna just fly direct to Sao Paulo and branch out from there. Venezuela will have to wait.........

You judgement sounds good. Venezuela is itself a huge nation, and Brazil of course is a giant. There's little sense trying to see both in one trip. However, the route you mention has been a pet dream trip of mine for several years. The Guiana Shield area--the tepuys and landscape of the La Gran Sabana is one of the oldest and most unique mountain ranges in the world. This mountains are much older than the Andes, and from what I understand, more beautiful than the Appalachians. This is the inspiration for "Lost World" because of the unique ecosystems that exist in the donut hole tepuys. Taking a trip from Ciudad Bolivar through to Boa Vista, which is on a tributary of the Amazon, might provide a good survey of the region. I've never heard of any VT member take this route.
