| Riomaggiore | Cinque terre Posted: Thu December 7, 2006 12:24 AM UTC
We are 2 adults and 2 children (11 and 15 years) who are sporty fit kids.
we want to spend 2 days in Cinque terre and we will driving from Lucca. Firstly where is cheap to stay with quad rooms? Also where can we park the car safely?? Is there a problem of cars getting broken into? Can you reccommend an itinerary that the kids will enjoy? We will be there around the middle to end of September 2007. That time will hoepfully be less busy with tourists. We are also on a budget and want cheap acccommodation. Is it easier for us to buy a cinque terre train pass before we go and not have the hassle of doing it on arrival? Thanks kris McGhee |

I was there in Sept last year (2005). I caught the train from La Spezia into Riomaggiore, and stayed there.
I was in the Cinque Terre for 3 days (not long enough for me) and unfortunately for 2 of them it rained, so couldnt really do much. I did however manage to do the walk between the towns, which was amazing. Tiring, but fantastic all the same. Im not sure about cars, but most people tend to park them in the large car parks as you arent permitted to bring them into the towns as it is a national park. I sought accomodations with La dolce Vita, who operate I guess pension type rooms, with bathroom, and also a kitchen (you may have to find it tho) They are in the main street of Rio Maggiore, and the people who operate it are very friendly. make sure you bring light rain jackets/pants as it tends to be misty rain. Im not sure of an itinerary, as its a sort of place where you just seem to go with the flow. The walk however shouldnt take you more than half a day. wouldnt say that there is alot to do for children, however they should enjoy the scenery.

Outstanding to hear of your travels. We, too, will be in the Cinque Terre (on the 25th of Sept). This was the perfect question for us (at least the part about parking) so I am glad you asked it. Enjoy your travels...
