I am traveling with my husband who also is getting a kidney transplant. During his recovery time (about two weeks) most of my time will be free. Before his surgery we will do some siteseeing. I would love to see the city as a "local" does. I have lived in Sri Lanka and South India and, being a pale American, staring is to be expected. I wear shalwar kameez during the summer in Vancouver. How safe and comfortable would I be walking around the Anarkali Bazaar, for instance? I would like to buy some gemstone and gold jewelry at a fair price, as well as craft and tribal items, and,of course, SK's. Anything you wish to advise me on is greatly appreciated.

Few lessons that i learnt in my last visit;
1. NEver buy stuff from da guy who approaches you with stolen/antique watches; firstly as it will be fake; secondly it catches other potential seller's eyes and long b4 u know it you're surrounded by 20 others
2. Use Cc as much as you can as oppose to CASH for ur own safety & safety of people around you and always CONFIRM THE PRICE on the docket you're authorising. (I authorised Rs.10,000 instead of Rs.1000; i am not saying they do it deliberately; but ya they can make mistake)
3. Mmmm and lastly it would be best not to respond to some nasty comments that you may or may not hear from others AND try not to speak to someone who stops you on ur way & ask "Where're u from?";consequences r that suddenly everyone else around you will become curious too and i am talking couple of dozen. And you would like to keep a low profile; wouldn't ya? Hehehe

Adil hospital,Masood hospital,Sharif hospital or Rasheed?
I know all the kidney transplant hospitals in lahore and trust me i will gove you the best advices for that......

They sometimes make hassel for the patients.I have the proof of what i am saying.....

As for the city visit there is no other best person that me who can take you to most beautiful places of lahore.Because i am a filmaker and i know everything here.Also if you wouldn't mind i can also film you around the city visiting places and that can be handy for you.....

If you're dressed properly then you can avoid the stares but avoid the crowd because then groping's common there.

You better buy the gem stones and jewellery if you've got any plan to come to Peshawar baecause mostly the stuff in Lahore's fake and if you find the good stuff it'd be expensive.

Here in Peshawar, you can find Kochi jewellery (Tribal areas or Afghanistan) along with gem stones and gold jewellery.

Lahore, the city of art and architecture, especially Mughals who greatly patronised Lahore so you can see their wonders here in shape of NBadshahi mosque,Shalimar gardens, Lahore fort etc.

First of all let me just assure you that things are not as bad as my other VT friends have said over here in pakistan.If you have lived in srilanka n south india then you must be used to the stares n safety n other issues beecause we are NOT very different than these two countries.

Foreigners are not such a RARE sight and white skin people are a lot over here. so dont have this thing that people will stare,its upto how you act/behave/dress and speak in public that will get attention more ,rather than white skin.

People dont give you NASTY COMMENTS on the road without any REASON,again its your dress and behaviour that attracts crowd, nothing else. And,as they say ...When In Rome Do as The Romans Do...so you gotta respect the culture and norms we are a muslim state .
Nobody will Stop you on the road and ask ,where u r from?, trust me on this, we are not as backward and illiterate as some ppl think....

Lahore is the hub of true culture,you will find evrything here,nothing stolen,nothing imitation as such.Their are numerous Handicraft shops and everybody dont go to Peshawar to buy REAL stuff. And ,by the way Peshawar ,is a VERY Restricted & Close knitted city,not very friendly as far as women are concerned.

Other than this,you will find all for interest in Lahore, Anarkali,why do you want to go their,for shopping,you will find everything in the city ,yes if you want to see the old city go visit Anarkali but not just for shopping.

Imran, Lahore does not sell fake stuff,Lahore is known to have the best of all kinds of things,as for immitations even peshawar have them in form of electric goods,laptops,watches,cameras......want me to name more ???

come on fake stuff can be sold anywhere its for you to judge and know wat you are buying.

Ali, do you know you are charged 15 to 25 percent on certain stuff if you buy from credit cads?

secondly im really interested to know which PART of Lahore have people who stop Foreigners on the road and ask them "WHERE ARE U FROM?".
