| Svalbard | Svalbard? Posted: Tue December 5, 2006 12:55 AM UTC Hi, I was just scrolling through the countries in the European area, and I spotted Svalbard. I know it belongs to Norway. Is it similar to Greenland, mainly made of ice and snow? How big is the population and how do you get there? |

Check out my VT pages on Svalbard; they start with some basic info on the islands, others' pages, too carry the info you are looking for. It is quite similar to Greenland, but without natural human habitation, and with much less biodiversity, given the northerly latitude. The main settlement Longyearbyen is as far norht as Thule, Greenland. You fly to Svlabard form the cities Tromsø or Oslo in Norway. Occasionally there are flights from Murmansk, Kiev and Moscow, too.
