Albuquerque Moving to ABQ in Jan
Posted: Sun December 3, 2006 06:59 PM UTC
Moving to ABQ in January and not able to check out the area before the move. Can anyone tell me about area South of Central Ave, West of San Mateo Blvd, east of Carlisle Blvd and north of Zuni Blvd. Saw an ad for a newly remodeled condo there. Its hard to tell from the picture of outside, but it looks a little questionable? It is a safe area? ThankMoving to ABQ in January, not able to come out and look around before the moves in advance for your help. :>)

To me it depends on where you are in the area you describe. More to the west is Ridgecrest and Knob Hill, which can be good. More to the east can be rough and, as you say, questionable.

This is an OK area where some new condos have been built. It is undergoing a revitalization. It is within waking distance (maybe 1/4 mile) of the Nob Hill area which has some nice shops and very good restaurants. The area is somewhat spotty, but is becoming mofre desireable. UNM is 1 mile west on Central.

That sounds like the area near my home BTW. The spots with the new condos are still being revitalized :) So on the edge of being sketchy ... but trending toward a better neighborhood. If it's one of the 3 places I'm thinking of, you are just a couple of blocks from a great Thai eatery, O'Neils Pub, and a Blake's lotaburger joint ... Blake's is a must for a burger lover :)

Good luck as you make up your mind, and let us know when you get to town!
