Okay. As an islander I have never stayed in the hotels although the Norfolk and Marina are considered budget hotels and receive a lot of visitors. I have never heard any complaints.

Jersey is not considered to be hilly. The roads follow the lie of the land so if you are planning on cycling it is very much up and down. The cliff path walks also follow the lie of the land and some can be quite strenuous!

As for duty free goods - on re-entering mainland Britain from the Channel Islands, the Customs allowance is:
· 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 350 grams of tobacco
· 1 litre of distilled beverages, spirits or 2 litres of sparkling or fortified wines and 2 litres of other wines
· 60 cc/ml perfume
· 250 cc/ml eau de toilette
· £145 worth of other goods

Hope that answers your questions - if not let me know!

Wendy

Hi Wendy,
thanks,your tips have been very
helpful.the reason i asked about
the hills,is because me and my
brother are pensioners and we won"t
be doing any hill climbing,lol.
hope you can help with this one.
can we take a day trip to saint
alma or cherburg? if so, any idea
of the cost.once again, thanks for the tips.

Hi Owen

Yes you can do a day trip to St Malo - and if you have proof of being a pensioner it is a little cheaper at GBP23 each for a day return with Condor Ferries. The old town of St Malo is lovely with lots of cobbled streets to wander around. There are also plenty of places to eat - try the savoury pancakes called Galettes. Very yummy! If you have room in your bag and a few euros knocking about buy some of their biscuits - very buttery tasting and great with a cup of tea.

As far as I know there are no day trips to Cherbourg but if I had the choice I think St Malo is much easier - and prettier - to visit in a day.

Have a great holiday! Don't forget to visit Jersey Zoo and if you are interested in war memorabilia the the German Underground Hospital is a must. Have fun!
