| Naxos Island | naxos accomodation Posted: Thu November 30, 2006 12:48 AM UTC
We are spening 5 days in Naxos this coming May/June. I have researched carefully as I was unsure whether to stay in town or on one of the beaches outside of town. But because this is the laid back portion of our trip we want to be close to a nice beach, plus have a pool and kitchenette. I have decided to go south of town and I am thinking about two places on Agios Prokopios, either the Agios Prokopios Hotel or Birakos. I think going farther south might be a bit too far from town for really easy access, however if anyone recommends staying on Agia Anna or Plaka Beach I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.
Can anyone comment on either of these hotels or what the difference between might be? From what I have read they both sound great (basic, clean accomodation), both have pools and are roughly the same distance from the beach itself, also both seem to have good reviews. Plus they are in the same price range (Prokopios might be a tiny bit more expensive). I'd be interested in any feedback on these or other places people have experienced. |

HI! Bobbi:
I stayed at Hotel Agio Prokopios Hotel (http://www.prokopis.com/naxos-hotels/index.htm) at Agios Prokopios Beach. Most lovely place and I got myself a good rate off http://www.hostelworld.com. My page is not up yet but for reviews, you can check out Jonathan's aka SWFC_Fan's Naxos page for it. The owner actually owns 3 lodgings in the same location: the afore mentioned, Hotel Dimitra (with a kitchenette) and a 3rd. The location is great, just a 10 minutes walk to the beach with restaurants, convenient stores and tour agencies all clustering around the spot. Friendly service, great pool, not luxurious but comfortable rooms- nice place to be. The only flaw? The pesky mosquitoes! And they are big. Make sure you lock up the windows and doors and switch on the aircon after 6.30pm cos they take no prisoners after that!

Thank so much!
Are the pesky mosquitos bad in May as well! I had heard that about the Birikos as well...do many have this problem or is it only in thei area? I thought we would check out the Alkyoni as well. And what aobut beaches further south. Too far from town??

I was there in Sep and thankfully, I switched on the AC early at about 6.30pm and kept the armada at bay. 3 managed to slip in though but the colder temperature made them sluggish so they were dead meat (or rather blood pools) pretty fast.
Not sure about the other locations Bobbi, since I based myself in Agio Prokopios Beach and I was in Naxos only for a couple of days...

Hi
I stayed at Agios Prokopios Hotel in September and it was fine. The area around the pool seemed quiet and relaxing although I spent my days on the beach which is only a 5 minute walk. There are regular buses going to Naxos town if you want something more lively in the evening. I haven't heard of the other hotel so I can't comment on that I'm afriad. Enjoy your trip. Antonia
