Rwanda Gorilla Trekking -- Rwanda vs. Uganda
Posted: Wed November 29, 2006 07:30 PM UTC
I am planning a gorilla trek next June and am trying to decide between Uganda and Rwanda. I saw similar posts several months ago and wondered if anyone had more insight. Particularly, I would like information oo opinions on whether you are more or less likely to see the gorillas in one country or the other and whether the other wildlife/scenery is better in one country or the other.

Any information is appreciated.

I am planning a simliar trip in August and most of the advice I have recieved has bee that Rwanda is the better option for several reasons. ie.
1. The location is more beautiful, being set amonst 5 or 6 volcanoes
2. The Climb is easier (though still tough!) as Bwindi has much thicker vegetation
3. The thick vegetation at Bwindi can cause difficulties in viewing and photographing
4. The security is tighter in Rwanda, as they have a permenant military unit proteting the park. Though it is meant to be good in both countries at the moment.

That being said I think both locations look amazing and would be a privledge to view in either location.

Both these countries have similar chances of veiwing the gorillas. the last time i was there for gorilla tracking i got different advices and what i realised is that Rwanda is very expensive to tour in terms of accommodation , food, visas, insurance among others though you have those thing you must get another to enter rwanda but for ugandas case you travel freely. Me i had persisted to go to rwanda so the first tour company i was using could advice me those staff and their cost was very high so i went for travel hemipheres that a friend recommended for me i experienced a great memorable safari in ugnada but they said Rwanda is also cool but for big spenders coz they offer safaris their too
