Hi, i recently went to Vanuatu, and i defiantly recommend you go to Tanna. Aside from the volcano, there is also many beautiful beaches, snorkeling, and hot springs, custom (traditional) villages to see.
To arrange a volcano tour, i'm pretty sure you'll have to arrange it through where you are staying, as they will co-ordinate with the local people who actually allow tourists up there. The volcano was fantastic and truly heart-raising!!! There are many places to stay in tanna, a quick google search will bring many up. however, if you want a really authentic cultural experience i would recommend staying at 'Paradise View' bungalows, it is owned and run by the locals rather than ex-pats so the money directly benefits the villagers. the Staff are extremely attentive and welcoming. For example on arrival we were present with flower necklaces and coconut drinks, and dinner was accompanied by the local boys' string band. The accommodation is basic, but very clean and located in a very beautiful spot. Plus, if you only want to stay in tanna a few days it is close to the volcano and almost all the islands' other attractions, hot springs, port resolution ect. Petrol is hugely expensive so i would recommend staying on the east side of the island where 'paradise view' is. the website is http://www.vanuatutourism.com/vanuatu/export/sites paradiseview.html but the phone number is incorrect, the real number is 68075 , ask for Jeramiah. you'll need to call a few days ahead to arrange airport pick up otherwise, i went to Santo which is great if you are interested in diving or snorkelling, and which has a lovely blue swimming hole.
