Are there any Indian rock, metal, jazz or funk bands ?

I'm going to India on Monday. I usually like to pick up some music made by bands from the countries I visit. Can anyone give me names of good bands I should look for in the CD shop? Preferably of the genres in the question title.

Quite a few "indi"-genious bands exist. It's for you to decide who are good. Try out the music stores of Palnet M and Music World who are all decently stocked and have listening facilities. Many book stores like Crossword, Oxford and Landmark also store music. Apart from these there are other dedicated smaller music stores.You may also try and source Pakistani and Bangladeshi bands as some them are good too.

Hi Doug,

Definitely pick yourself up some Pentagram, Black Friday, Colorblind and Indian Ocean. These aren't the latest names on the scene, but among the best. The really hidden gems on the scene stay just that... hidden. It's very much an underground, word-of-mouth sorta' vibe. Also, there are some incredible jazz and lounge collectives under the 'Bombay Rhythm' and 'Soul of Bombay' titles.

You can also try Parikrama - rock band
Zero - Metal
Pin Drop Violence - Metal
Brahma - Metal
(dont know if you will get the audio CDs for the metal bands I mentioned - but u can try and ask)
