Depence of the weather, that means what is the month that you go visit Delfoi?
For me, the best is late summer in August or September.
Arahova, is the main vilage to this area, but now the winter is more crowdly than you can imagine specialy the weekends. (there is a snow sports center with VIP's, big 4x4, etc.)

Of the beaten path, try to fix your acomodation to the vilage with the same name Delfoi. As for trekking, is (beyon the snow) the main activitie that you can find there.
Walk this mountains, read the history and the myth's, talk about to your kids, and enjoy.

Have a nice and safe trip, and feel free to ask me.

some info by the Unesco for the place
maybe from google, maybe from yahoo engine
http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/393
http://www.culture.gr/2/21/211/21110a/e211ja01.html

here is another official site for all the area around Delfoi
http://www.aroundparnassos.com/index.html

From Delfoi vilage, following the ancient path, which now is known as E4, you will be taken on a beautiful walk with lovely scenery and green nature everywhere. This path will take you to the top of the mountains.
Again, all the best

I'd suggest to spend some hours in Arahova. This is a nice village in the mountains; some km far from Delphi.

Delphi is in a beautiful mountainous scenery, where you can have different type of activities like trekking, mountain climbing, skiing. Easy or more difficult. Tailor-made or in organized groups. I m afraid that you cannot find about all these in one site. Let me know when are you going to be there and what exactly you are interested in and I will try to find some info for you.

Thank you all!
We will be in Greece in Sept. 07 (I plan in advance), and want to spend time trekking in Delphi area as well as Crete. Then we will do a few of the "must see" islands before continuing on to Turkey. Maybe only 12 days in Greece, and like to do strenuous treks (5-7 hours) but no technical mountain climbing. Any suggestons welcomed.

early September you can enjoy one of the best trekking path's in greece, the "Samaria gorge" to Crete island, with start pointn 45minutes from Hania. Worth to have an idea for the place.
This 2 destinations -Delfhi n Samaria- is life time memory if you visit greece.

As i say again about Delfhi
during this walk, it is a good idea to take a stop at the area of Fedrianes, because the view from here is magnificent, and you are sure to want to take a photograph or two of the stunning views.

Looking down you will see the archaeological area, and a little further is the olive groves of the villages of Hrissos and Amfisa.
Continuing the walk will take you to the village of Crocki, and a little further on and you will reach a place called Palaio Panagia, which is where the Korikion Caves are located, at an altitude of 1360m. It was in these caves that traces of human presence were found, thought to be from the Palaeolithic era.

About Samaria gorge
is the longest in Europe with total length of 18 kilometers. The width of the gorge ranges from 150 meters at the widest point down to 3 meters at the narrowest. The gorge of Samaria has been proclaimed a national park in order to protect the rare flora and fauna.
One of the most beautiful parts of the route are the "Sideroportes" (iron gates), where the two sides of the gorge have a distance of 3 meters in between and a height of 600 meters. This fit to your tastes for 6-7 hours walking.

I wish for you to visit both places.
Have luck
K.S.
