Are malaria tablets important for a one week holiday based in Port Vila but with some other trips to more remote parts. Doc seems to think so but perhaps this is an overreaction?

Take the pills. You do NOT WANT to fool around with Malaria, especially the Asian strines. The tourist people will tell you no problem because they don't want to scare you away, but listen to your doctor, especially if he is a travel doc. When I travel in the boonies of central and south america I take a full medical kit with instructions on what to use against what I get. I would also take a Sawyers Extractor in the unlikely eveentt you get bitten by snake, spiders or wasps. Getting the goodie out quickly can make a bite or sting far less painful or dangerous. I have been snake bitten and believe me it is NO FUN EVEN thought I did not take a full load of poison I was still laid up for three days and it HURT LIKE HELL
It was a small Fur de Lance and I was lucky. Jack
