RE: Does anyone recognise the hills in this photo? Posted: Sun November 26, 2006 06:53 PM UTC
Hi - in case anyone's interested, I got the answer:
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/uk.rec.walking/browse_thread/thread/d760ecc51008c6e9/e98ab0ea2ccb3644#e98ab0ea2ccb3644
The first is looking across the Red Bank area between Loughrigg, on
the far right, and Silver How. I think on the horizon, reading from
the left, are Blea Rigg, Great Castle How, the southwest side of
Silver How, then Spedding Crag. The horizon is now in the far
distance, the crest above Browncove Crags, Helvellyn Lower Man,
Helvellyn itself where the cloud is coming down, then the misleadingly
large bulk of Seat Sandal obscuring Nethermost and Dollywagon Pikes.
Part of Dollywagon, the Falcon and Tarn Crag areas can be seen to the
right of Seat Sandal before the unmistakeable gap of Grisedale Hause.
Then there's Fairfield with its summit just in cloud, Greatrigg Man
with Greenhead Gill on its slopes, Erne Crag and the prominent Heron
Pike. The ridge then descends to Nab Scar which is largely or totally
hidden by Loughrigg. In the near distance in glowing sunshine, Dow
Bank is in front of Helvellyn and the fell in front and slightly to
the right of Grisedale Hause is Huntingstile Crag.
Image 2 has Great Rigg at its centre, Greenhead Gill is unmistakeable.
Alcock Tarn, a popular walk from Grasmere, is just behing those
orange-coloured mounds just to the right of the gill.
