| Yaransk | Is this a scam? Posted: Thu November 23, 2006 02:09 AM UTC
I've been in contact with a girl for about a month. And recently she said that she wants to come to Australia to meet me. She told me that she looked into what she would need to come over here and said that with a Visa, passport and airline ticket it would cost $US904 and asked me to send her the money. Today I got an email from her saying that she can borrow $US300, but needs the rest of the money.
I want to believe that she's a genuine girl, but part of me is skeptical. I need to find out if she's being honest. HELP!! |

heya,
i don't know much about yaransk. but as a general...someone that you have only been speaking to for a month who asks you for money...well, alarm bells should be going off in your head. i would lean towards the thinking that it is a scam, and once you part with the money she will either: a) ask you for more money with excuses saying it now costs more than she thought or b) you will never here from her again how well do you know this girl? i would say treat this with a lot of caution. only so you got get stung.

Tell her to use her $300 to get her visa and passport, and then send you a photocopy of them. If she does this then she is sincere. If she does not, run the other way! Chances are good that it is a scam, so be VERY careful. Don't let your emotions cloud your good judgement.

I can't imagine giving or even lending ANYONE, except a relative or close friend, 600 USD to come and visit me anywhere - and bear in mind that she is only borrowing the other 300 USD, so will probably hit you for that as well, plus the Australian Embassy in her home country may require you to take on financial responsibility for her during her stay before they will grant her a visa in the first place. Unless you are actually considering "importing" her as a mail-order bride, I fail to see why you should contribute to the cost of her passport, which has a use going beyond this particular trip, and assuming that she is expecting to stay with you, i.e. you will be paying for her board, lodging and other expenses while she is in Australia, it is damn cheeky for a would-be visitor to expect you to stump up for her travel costs as well! But then, I don't know what sort of relationship you think you have with her, although the fact that alarm bells are ringing seems to me to be significant. If I were you I would tell her you don't have that sort of money to hand either, and don't want either of you to get into debt for her holiday. Of course, she might go off you then, but that will tell you a lot.

If you're that keen on meeting her why don't you go there? The worst that will happen is that you'll have a vacation. If she's the one for you, all the better!

Do not hesitate! It is 100% scam!
It is good idea to write to prosecutor. Last month after a claim from Canadian citizen a group of "dating scammers" was arrested in Ekaterinburg. The case looks very very similar. P.

It is a scam. But just for the future, you don't have to go there and she doesn't have to come to you. They all meet their internet boy- or girl-friends in Turkey. Russians don't have to get a visa to go there (just a stamp in the airport) and it's pretty affordable for most of the representatives of Russian so called middle class.

Do not be skeptical at all. Be 100% confident that they are all scams! Do NOT travel to meet them, either! You may find yourself in a worse situation.
