| Ruinas Chichén-Itzá | Xalapa to Chichen-Itza Posted: Tue November 21, 2006 03:51 PM UTC
I'll be staying in Xalapa, Veracruz for about 4 months (study abroad) and I'm wondering if it would even be feasible to attempt to get from Xalapa to Chichen Itza. Are there buses that go from to and from? How long would the ride be (days?)? And how expensive?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

Oi,
One thing that you are going to find out is that the Mexican bus system is very extensive, and will take you ANYWHERE you want to go in the country....if you have the time and money! Now, from Xalapa, I would take one of the frequent busses to Vera Cruz, and then look for a 12-hour, express bus to Merida, which is a good place to stay, and then make trips to Chichen Itza, a few hours away. (Merida has a larger selection of hotels, and, at a better price!) From Merida, you will find tours to Chichen Itza, or, you can take a bus there, or rent a car and drive yourself. FYI, there are many great archaeological sites to explore in Yucatan, and Merida is almost in the center of them all! As for the price....well, there are several classes of busses you can choose from, each with a different price. Go on the net and look up bus companies in Mexico for more info. (I like to start with google.com.mx, which will lead you to many more!) Xalapa is a great place to stay! It will be an adventure you will never forget! JAC
