Hi all,
I will be in Islamabad for a couple of days very soon. Can anyone recommend any must see tourist attractions?? There does not seem to be many guide books on Islamabad so any hints or tips would be gratefully received! Cheers... |

Hi
There's one of the worlds largest mosques in islamabad called faisal masjid, its quite stunning and has really nice gardens around it. You can visit the rose and jasmin gardens, and enjoy a relaxing walk. Rawel lake is another place of interest. A few hours north of islamabad is a place called Muree, it has stunning moutain ranges and breath taking views, however in winter it maybe too snowy for your liking, best go there in the summer months. watch out for the monkeys that roam around!! cheers :)

Salut mon ami,
I mention you some of the attractions which shouldn't be missed during your saty at Islamabad. Shah faisal mosque, a unique piece of architecture, designed by a Turkish architecture, one of the largest mosques in the region. Visit Super, Jinnah super,Abbpara, Blue area markets in Islamabad, besides that you can go to Rawalpindi city and you can visit Raja bazar etc. Almost 35 Km, located the ancient city of Taxila, with its historical background, monestaries, ancient cities. Nice travels,

Get footprint Pakistan handbook (1999 edition). An excellent guide book that will let you know what attractions are in Islamabad, map, and possibilities for excursions outside Islamabad such as Muree/Nathiagali, Dam-ne-Koh/Pir Sohawa, Taxila, Khanpur Dam, maybe a day trip towards the salt ranges (motorway towards Lahore). Possibilities are endless...

I was in ISB in mid Oct. Please do go for a drive to Margalla Hills. ISB is built at the foot of these hills, so basically the hills you see as a backdrop to the city are the Margalla Hills. You can get a wonderful view of the city. If you see my VT homepage you will see this view - I posted it there. Rose and Jasmine gardens are OK but i recommend the Shaka Parian Gardens - they are MUCH nicer and very well looked after. Also Lok Virsa is a museum of sorts and probably worth a visit. I would say, dont compare Pakistan or any of its cities with other cities (particularly western cities). Just take them as they are and enjoy the local beauty. Each country has something special about it and Pakistan has so much to offer. I loved it there - I hope you do.
