I'm heading to venezuela for 6 weeeks and I'm reading some scary stories about the airports and taxi's and kidnapping....i know this stuff exists everywhere...i been to rio and brazil for 6 weeks...but, how bad is it in venezuela...do you feel safe at the beach towns...santa fe, peurto colombia, los roques....it is just caracas...

who has some input on Venezuela...

hmm i dont think you should be nervous, i think you just have to be careful and dont be showing expesinves things and stuffs. people here is currently a bit scared cuz we have presidential elections and we dont know what could happen, anyway if you need some help let me know dude. jota840@hotmail.com

Man, dont be afraid, as you said, "this stuff exists everywhere", and you just need to be careful about where you go to and as the previous reply said dont show expensive items when walking around (watch, camera, cell phone, etc), and of course dont be out too late in the night. Caracas is a beautiful city that you will enjoy, just use common sense. Have a good trip!

Don't worry. I've been in Venzuela for a month last year (and I was a little worried at start) and nothing bad happened. You should just be aware of basic rules (be informed about your environment, be friendly to the people, don't wear expensive looking stuff, don't go walking around on your own in big cities during the night) and you will be fine.

Venezuela is beautiful; have a good time!
