Alice Springs camper van in december
Posted: Tue November 14, 2006 10:20 AM UTC
We plan to spend 5 days in december around Alice Springs (Uluru, Mc Donnels) in a cmaper van. We don't know how to choose it, is it usefull to have toilets and shower, air conditonning for the night? Should we camp in camping sites or along the road?
Thanks for the advice
Christian

Airconditioning: during the day !!
we had sometimes 50 degree C last year (early January)
Camping along the road: just read the story of a Dutch couple (on honeymoon) in new Zealand some days ago !!

We did the same from Alice Springs to Uluru including the Mereenie Loop Road. We had a 4WD Kia Sorento and it felt quite comfortable to have some 'extra power' on the bad parts of the road. I don't know if it absolutely necessary.

You won't need to camp along the roads as the distances between Alice/Kings Canyon/Uluru aren't huge. All these places have great camping areas and also swimming pools etc.
You won't need showers or toilets, but maybe an aircon would be handy as it will be hot....all depends what you can stand ...
If you are doing the loop you will need a 4x4 as this road is really bad at the moment....rough as guts...:)
You don't have to do the Loop...if you don't the roads are all sealed...
There are some roadside places you can stay, these have toilets...
Cheers

If you are doing the round trip from Alice to Uluru and back to Alice you can look into hiring a 4x4 with camping gear supplied. They supply all that is needed and this is stored on a roof rack. With the 4x4 you can do the loop, this is a fun ( even though rough) thing to do.
You might be able to pick up from Alice and drop off at Uluru.
They sometimes charge for this.
