hello dear VTers , its me again keny from malaysia . I will be going to Lausanne , Switzerland for about 10 days and my mum and infamous ( hehe ) VT sister "Rinaneo" is also coming with me. Hope you guys can help us with some of the following questions -
1) How far is Zurich from Lausanne ? a) What are the mode of transportations available and how much do they roughly cost ? How frequent does the transportation run ? b) How far is Milan from Lausanne ? And whats the train fare like ? Any disc for those > 55yrs ? c) Which other cities/town ( near Lausanne ) which you would recommend for a day trip or "1 or 2 days" trip ? how do you recommend we get there ? with lots of thanks keny |

Hi Keny,
there are two trains every hour from Lausanne to Zurich, the jurney takes 2 hours and the full fare return ticket is 130sFr. (100US$) On the webpage of the swiss federal railways (SBB) you can find the timetable: http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en? (In english) If you plan to use the train more often during your stay in Switzerland, a Swiss Pass could be an option: http://myswitzerland.raileurope.com/us/index.htm#passes From Lausanne to Milan it takes 3-4 hours, there are three direct trains per day. The timetable is also on the webpage mentioned above. I would recommend a day trip to Geneva, which is less then an hour from Lausanne. And if you want to see the mountains you should visit either Zermatt (Matterhorn) or Interlaken (Jungfraujoch).
