I will be on the Big Island of Hawaii for 8 days in December & was wondering if anyone out there has done any camping on that island. Any suggestions/tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

gday there!
i'm heading off to hawaii big island in feb 07! my mate, who lives in kurtistown on the east side of the island, said that there are some neat camping places down around kona (on west side!). i recommend the book 'the rough guide to hawaii'- i think they have a web site also. good luck!
