Moshi Kilimanjaro

I'm thinking about climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro this year. Here's what I need to know: 1) Is Moshi the closest town to Kili? 2) How far is Moshi from KIA? 3) Can a strong 13 year old boy climb Kili? Im thinking about taking my son.

I have never been there, however my 21 year old daughter climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro with two other girls last year. She calls it the mountain of hell. Of the three girls that went up, the one with Asthma made it to the top, the other two, one being my daughter, made it 5 hours below the top. Both of the girls were extremely sick. That being said, I asked her if she had to choose would she do it again. Never again, however glad she attempted it. She said it is hit and miss who will make it to the top. It is not necessarily the person who is so fit that makes it.

Hi,

1) I think - Yes!
2) For us it was about 1,5 hours by taxi (mini bus).
3) Guides say: teenagers as well as professional sportsmen are the worse climbers at Kili. First ones because of there impatience (main law is "pole-pole"), last - cause of their trained chest - they fill lack of oxygen earlier than others.
I think to repeat my trip with my son but no earlier than he will be 15. BTW Before 12 it is even forbidden to climb higher than 3000 m.

Regards,
P.
