Lille Cheapest way to travel from Paris to Lille
Posted: Mon November 6, 2006 12:27 PM UTC
Hello/ Salut

My boyfriend and I want to go to Lille from Paris on 1st December and return to Paris the next day. We are both over 25 and under 60 and have no special redution card.
I browsed the sncf site and the cheapest return ticket for two that I found was 116 Euros.

I read something on the Lille 3000. Is it possible to get a better discount for the given days? Or is there any bus to be catch isntead of train?

Tips from sncf experts are welcome

Well, I went out to sncf-voyages.com and looked around. Depending on the time of day that you leave and return, you can get 40 euro tickets for round trip second class each (total of 80 euro). But these tickets are limited, are non-refundable, and are only on the earliest train(s?) on Dec 1st, and the very last train on Dec 2.

The trains I found were the 6:00 a.m. train from Lille Flanders on Dec 1st, arriving in Paris Nord at 7:02 a.m. (train 7000), and the train leaving at 10:58 p.m. from Paris Nord on Dec 2nd, arriving in Lille Flanders at 14 minutes after midnight (train 7099).

There were other tickets during the day, some of them I think were only 23 euro per person each way...

Your problem is that these are TGV trains - fast and expensive. You might be able to go on slower trains more cheaply, but it will be hard on the SNCF site to research this. Actually, the German website (www.bahn.de) is better suited for studying slow trains (it gives you the option of specifying fast solutions or not), but it won't give you any pricing...

it really does depend on the time and date you plan on arriving. check for random times, and it should work out fine. also, there is a carte for persons between the age of 25 and 60 that give somewhat of a discount, about 25-40 percent. i personally wouldnt take a bus as it would probably be more expensive and def not the most direct, i feel.

are y'all coming for lille 3000? the website is http://lille3000.fr/ if youd like more info. there are a TON of activities that are FREE, so dont feel obliged to pay. also, there is a guide called "SORTIR WEEKEND" in which lists an abundance of choices. i look for bargains as im studying here, therefore always on the lookout for deals. any questions, feel free to throw them at me. im here til feb. :)

bonne chance.
