RE: Cheapest way to travel from Paris to Lille Posted: Tue November 7, 2006 01:10 AM UTC
Well, I went out to sncf-voyages.com and looked around. Depending on the time of day that you leave and return, you can get 40 euro tickets for round trip second class each (total of 80 euro). But these tickets are limited, are non-refundable, and are only on the earliest train(s?) on Dec 1st, and the very last train on Dec 2.
The trains I found were the 6:00 a.m. train from Lille Flanders on Dec 1st, arriving in Paris Nord at 7:02 a.m. (train 7000), and the train leaving at 10:58 p.m. from Paris Nord on Dec 2nd, arriving in Lille Flanders at 14 minutes after midnight (train 7099).
There were other tickets during the day, some of them I think were only 23 euro per person each way...
Your problem is that these are TGV trains - fast and expensive. You might be able to go on slower trains more cheaply, but it will be hard on the SNCF site to research this. Actually, the German website (www.bahn.de) is better suited for studying slow trains (it gives you the option of specifying fast solutions or not), but it won't give you any pricing...
