| Ronda | How many days in Ronda? Posted: Mon November 6, 2006 03:54 AM UTC
Hi,
I'll be stopping en-route in Ronda on the way to Sevilla. Can anyone give me some advice on whether should I just stay overnight, or should I extend it to 2 nights? Any comments? Thanks! |

Well, I suppose it depends on what you want to do there, and how many days you have in total for your trip. I was there 2 nights and never regretted, this way we had a whole day to walk aroud, the old city is really worth it. The first afternoon we went to the small white towns in the mountains and we left the third day early morning (we were travelling by car). But if you are short of time and want just to focus on the "bridge", a night should be enough.

Ronda is lovely, but quite small. I think one day is really enough unless you plan to go walk in the countryside or something. Will you visit Cordoba?

Actually I thought of visiting Cordoba as a day trip in Seville. Or should I actually break the Ronda trip into 2 days and then move onto Cordoba, or do an additional night in Seville?

IMO Cordoba is too far away and has too much to offer (not onlt the Mosque) to be done as daytrip from Sevilla. Is two hours driving (so more by train or bus) each way... A daytrip is feasible, but you'll have just the time to visit the Mosque and return. I would better stay in Cordoba one night on the way to somewhere else. This way, you can visit the Mosque first time in the morning without the crowds, and see a bit more of the old town.
Don't know how long you plan to stay in Sevilla, but for me is a 3 nights (so 2 complete days) as the very minimum. Many people just stay for a few hours, see only the Cathedral and Barrio de Santa Cruz, and go away wondering why the place is so famous. You need half day just to visit the Reales Alcazares, and if you don't explore Triana and visit La Macarena, you cannot say you've seen the real Sevilla.

We visited Ronda as a day trip from Seville - absolutely not enough time. And spending a night over after all the tourists (like us) leave is probably delightful. Many bus tours stop in Ronda for a few hours during the day between the seacoast and Seville. Still, I can't see two nights there with Seville in your future.

I have been to Ronda multiple times. I really love this town. On a tight time budget, I recommend that you plan so that you have at least one full day to explore Ronda. This will require two nights in town. In one very long day you will not see everything, but you can see most of the best that Ronda has to offer.
If you can only squeeze a short visit to Ronda into your itinerary there are a few “must see” places. A stroll through the Barrio Padre Jesus with a stop at the Arab Baths and a stop at the Palacio Mondragon. A visit to the bullring which is claimed to be the oldest in Spain. And a meal at one of the restaurants on the cliff. Belsaita is correct about Sevilla. Every time I have been there I have been amazed in new ways. Two full days (3 nights) is a quick stay for such an exciting and diverse city. Spains most celebrated poet, Garcia Lorca, said, “If you only have time to visit one place in all of Spain, make it Sevilla.” Sevilla has a little of everything Spain has to offer. Have a wonderful adventure. Fred
