I'm willing to bet a thousand New Zealand dollars that nobody visiting VT's China Forum is planning a trip to Ganzhou anytime soon. It's a remote town in one of China's poorest provinces far away from the common China tourist itinerary. The only possible way a tourist might stop here is if they are taking the train from Hong Kong to Beijing and they get off at the Ganzhou train station for a five minute stretch on the platform before reboarding.
I can't wait to hear what your daughter's impression of Ganzhou will be like. I'll bet a hundred thousand New Zealand dollars she likes your home much more than her ancestral village. In the meantime, here are some photos of Ganzhou that you can simply take from the Internet: http://www.gurrad.com/china/ganzhou3.htm http://jx.ganzhou.com/Lvyou/Lvyougzms/200610/1468.html ...and finally this link takes you to the Ganzhou gourmet buffet gallery so that your daughter can see actual mouth-watering photos of what food folks eat in her birthplace: http://jx.ganzhou.com/Lvyou/Lvyoucyms/200610/1495.html

Thanks for that, I know its a long shot, but worth a try. I see 1 tourist has left reviews recently.
I have heard its a very poor town, but when I see the photos I have, it doesn't look like that at all. Thanks for the links. I know Peggy Gurrad, but have not seen the others. Have you been there? I think my daughter will find the city exciting and busy and noisy, but then most places are in comparison to NZ.

I am currently teaching in Ganzhou and would be happy to take photos for you. This is a lovely city with many trees and gardens everywhere. It is also a very clean city and not polluted.
Let me know the location! Shannon
