Kaunas Travel Forum

Hi,

I will be in Kaunas from 28/12/06 to 02/01/07 with some friends (2 male/1 female).

I have a few questions. Firstly where would be a good place to go at night to see in the new year? Also i haven't booked accomodation yet, so any suggestions are much appreciated. Do you think that it is worth hiring a car as I would like to at least go to vilnius and some other places, or is the public transport system good?

For acommodation I would suggest the Metropolis. I think it's best to book in advance, it's a popular hotel. See this site for an acurate description:

As for transportation, when I was there I had a car so I can't tell you much about public transport, but I think there is a good train connection to Vilnius. Other places might be more of a challenge to get to by public transport alone. Depends on what you want to see and do.

Thanks for the feedback, just checked out the metropolis and it looks like its full for that time of year (good suggestion though). So more suggestions from anyone please. Also where would be best to go on new years eve?

hello again,

there has been a change of plan to the travel schedule. we have managed to get 2 nights stay at the metropolis hotel in kaunas on the 28th and 29th. we are then getting the bus to vilnius and spending 3 days there. so all i need to know now is, where is the best place to go on new years eve in vilnius? thanks in advance for any feedback.
