| Santander | Ferry from Plymouth Posted: Thu November 2, 2006 01:41 PM UTC
We are considering taking the ferry from Plymouth England to Santander. Does anyone know if the waterway is very rough for this voyage? Any other comments about the journey are welcome.
Thank you |

Hello,
I did this journey when I was quite young so can't remember that well but have done a lot of channel crossings. My advice would just be to check the weather reports for when you want to travel, as you know it all depends on that really. I've never been ill, but then I've never had any form of travel sickness, have you been ill in the past? Ginger is a very good natural anti-sea sickness remedy. My North Sea ferry journies have been a lot worse than any channel ones, just came back from the Isle of Wight and the sea was glass calm, I know it's not as exposed as the Channel but you do get a strong current.

All the ferries have improved in recent years and have good stabilisers that stop them rolling around at the slightest swell. The Bay of Biscay has always had a reputation for rough seas and in rough weather the boat is going to pitch. But for any normal sailing it should be fine. I think your biggest problem will be the tedium of the time it takes whilst the prices are not cheap. Going out is part of the holiday but coming back is a real drag. You might find it cheaper to fly to Bilbao or Asturias and hire a car.
