We are going to Venice in Oct. 2003 and plan to take a one day visit to Burano. Can anyone tell me interesting things to do in only ONE DAY. Thanks for your help.

From my experience you only need a half day in Burano, possibly combine it with a trip to Murano or another island. There really is not too much to do--you can stroll around the side streets and the buildings are very colorful and quaint--good photo ops, especially the old women making lace and brightly colored buildings.

From Burano you can also take a boat to the tiny island of S. Francesco ... nothing special to see, but lovely monks will show you round.

I just got back from Venice yesterday! I loved it. We actually spent about an hour on Burano. I loved it, but there isn't a ton to do. We just walked around and looked in the shops. Before Burano, we went to Murano for a bit, but I was pretty unimpressed by it. After Burano, we went to Lido. They have a great beach there if you like to lay out and swim.
I definitely think Burano is worth the trip there, but I wouldn't plan on staying a whole day.
Let me know if you want to know anything else since we were just there!

Exactly. Burano is completely charming but very small and not a lot happening. Enjoy strolling the back streets and marveling at the colorfully painted houses. Stroll the path that runs the circumference of the island. Have lunch. Visit the small primary church to admire the large Tiepolo hanging on the left side of the nave. There's a lace museum if you like that sort of thing.
We combined Burano with a trip to Torcello which I highly recommend if you have any interest in veeeery old churches with wonderful Byzantine mosaics. It's especially nice to arrange the day so that you return to Venice at sunset, because the skies are fantastic.

we spent the whole day exploring the islands o Murano, Burano and Torcello - they are fairly close and connect well with each other on the ferry - fully reccommend it.
