Yangshou Getting to Yangshou from Guilin
Posted: Wed November 1, 2006 11:25 AM UTC
Hi all,

I am planning my first trip to Guilin and Yangshou this Xmas. I plan on spending two nights at at The Osmanthus in Guilin (any comments on this hotel, good/bad?) and then plan to either travel by local bus or taxi to Yangshou. The plan is to spend two nights in Yangshou and then return back to Guilin for my final night's stay.

Yangshou Getting to Yangshuo from Guilin

Why not enjoy the ride down the Li River on the ferry?
I suggest you take the ferry from Guilin to Yangshuo and then ride the local bus back to Guilin.

There are regular shuttle buses between Guilin's train station and Yangshuo and they run every half hour or hour [it's already been several years since I've been there]. I'd recommend basing yourself out of Yangshuo because many things, especially tours, are less expensive in/from Yangshuo than in/from Guilin. There are tons of over-priced tours in Guilin. Accomodations are also less expensive for value in Yangshuo.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Am I right in thinking that the nearest airport to Yanghsou is Guilin? If so, how long would it take to get to Yangshou by ferry or bus? Could you give me some info as to where to go to take the ferry/bus, ticket prices etc.
Also, if you would be kind enough to recommend some nice 3-4 star hotels in Yangshou, I would be extremely grateful!

What is the weather like in December?

Yes, the nearest airport to Yangshuo is Guilin.
If going directly from Guilin airport to Yangshuo, a taxi is only about 200 RMB. I don't think there're direct buses, much less ferries. If you go into Guilin city first (which you really wouldn't need to), you could take the Li River cruise down to Yangshuo (expensive!) or a bus for 10 RMB, or a better express bus for 13 RMB. Don't get cheated on the bus prices!
Have you bothered to look at the website I recommended above for Yangshuo? That already gives you a lot of useful info about Yangshuo, including transport (getting there)!

As previously posted, I highly recommend taking the shuttle buses between Guilin and Yangshuo and they aren't expensive. And if you're interested in taking a cruise on the Li Jiang, again it's less expensive if you use Yangshuo as a base to get to Xing Ping for the boat-cruises along the river. You can even take public buses from Yangshuo to Xing Ping. All travel info about the area is readily available from the many travel agencies in Yangshuo. Oh, and btw, it can get quite cold in this area of Guangxi during this period so bring at least a fleece.

it costs you more than rmb 200 from guilin liangjiang airport to yangshuo by taxi.
you may take a airport shuttle first to guilin towndown, get off at the railway station or bus station, there are lots of buses head toward yangshuo.
it's better to take the bus at bus station.
it's expensive to take a cruise at the ferry of guilin, as above posted, you may start your cruise from xingping where is easily reached from yangshuo.

With only 2 days planned in Yangshou you may not want to go to yet another place but nevertheless you may want to check out Xing Ping, which is about 25 kilometers from Yangshou (a bus from Yangshou will get you there). It's also along the Li River and, in my opinion, is far more dramatic and beautiful than up river towards Guilin. In fact a scene from Xing Ping is on one of China's banknotes (forget which one). You can rent a boat with others to take you down the river.

I took a taxi from Guilin airport to Yangshou and, for me, the extra few dollars was well worth it, as you don't have to go into the city proper, as was already mentioned.
