Hi there,
I have arrived in Alexandria for a work placement and I am new to the country. Could you please suggest places to go to and things to do in Alexandria, as I havent had the opportunity to explore the place just yet. Is there an expat community here? Cheers Nadia |

Nadia.. I used to live in ALex.. which disctrict are you in. I never knew of any ex-pat community. You should go and see the consul offices of your own country, its a good network. If you are Christian, then the churches can be a good idea. How are you coping with the noise? And the dirt???

wow that is so unspecific ! ok
i just feel bored tonight ,maybe typing will entertain me a little ! ok here we go shopping :- Carrefour ; a superstore where you can find everything , i strongly recommend going there if you want to do shopping and if you have a car , because it is located at the south of the city in the desert road . Green Plaza ; that is a wonderful shopping open air mall with a variety of stores , located in somouha suburb . San Stefano shopping mall ; in san stefano on the coast .. the main souq (market) in Attarin district , including the streets of saffeya zaghloul , saad zaghloul and ramla station . there you can find many shops including antiques shops .. Bar : Cap d'or , a good place with andalusian flavour , it is located in adib street just after saad zaghloul street ..(do not go there if you hate stella!) resturant : Abu shaqra , in Green Plaza mall , for kabab and kofta , highly recomended unless youre vegeterian .. Santa lucia , 40 safeyya zaghloul street , if you like the sea fruits :) of course i wont mention the forte of qaitbey , necropolis , roman ampitheatre , the catacomb , the bibliotheque of alexandrina ,and the underwater monuments (on case you like diving) because I suppose you have heard about them before (no? if so just let us know ..) what else ?? yes if you like going to cinema and watching movies , i bet you can find many of them scattered everywhere and in all malls i have mentioned above .. if you like concerts , then you have to check with bibliotheque of alexandria , they held many concerts , specially for the infamous piano player omar khayrat (egyptian) , they are so entertaining .. also there is the theatre of Sayed Darwish like an opera house more then anything else .. if you have any other inquiries let us know please .. ciao

Alexanderia is nice. I like it more in winter when it is less crowded than summer. The winter weather is milder than cairo. Taxi and food much cheaper than cairo. You can do the tourist stuff in the first week. The Russian cultural center has various programs, have a look there. also look at the American cultural center. look around @ the Alexanderia Library, I am sure you'll find out what is going on.
good luck

also ride the tram or trommai, which is lots of fun. There is a special women only wagen so You'll get to meet plenty of local girls and you'll get to know them. It moves very very slowly but It is a good way to see the city.
There is a zoo el nozha-semoha area, shar' albert elawel (Albert the first road) next to the botanical garden. You can also visit almontazah palace and see the royal palace there which has been converted into the Salamlek Hotel. While in Alex take the oppurtunity and visit Rasheed (Rossetta), I was told that there interesting old houses and try to explore the delta and the north coast.

what ever you do, never ever take the Agriculture road (ettareeq ezzera'e) from Alexanderia to Cairo, it is always congested and it will take you for ever to reach you destination. Always take the desert road (ettareeq essahrawi)
You can also visit the Natroon valley monestary, which is located on the desert road to cairo. on the same raod, I was told that there is a park called Africa which is a safari!! I never been to it.

You can go to Al-Alamain. the site of WWII battle field between the Natzi and the Britts. There is a museum you can visit. In summer time the north coast became really alive esp. Marina.

Hello,
I am looking for a placement my self in Egypt, in particular Alexandria, it would be nice to know where you have found this :). There are many many things you can do Alexandria, I loved the place. If you can try to get to know the locals, as most of them speak english - and Egyptians are more than welcoming. The Corniche, seaside, is most beatiful at winter months, I've never been at that time, but everyone tells me.

Hi, I am a Spanish girl and I am going to Alex next week to work there. I would like to find a shared flat with other girls, do you know somebody looking to share in Alex? Thank you so much!
