Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Alexandria prices of apartment rentals - please verify
Posted: Sat October 28, 2006 11:52 AM UTC
Hi,

Silly question, but I need help urgently!:)

I'm going to stay in Alexandria from 20 to 30 November, and I was thinking of renting a small apartment rather than staying in a hotel.
I have asked a local friend to find something nice and furnished, but nothing special or big (1 bedroom, living room, batroom and kitchen) to rent, and he tells me that places which are nice, clean and well kept will cost me 1000 to 1200 LE. Now, this price for just 10 days sounds like a rip off and I'm just wondering if this is what you're really supposed to pay, or if my friend may be adding a sizeable commission for himself to the actual price. Anybody knows the average prices?

Hmmm I think this was expensive, yes. I have a flat that I always rent in Luxor, and I pay 800. This flat has three bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and a BIG three-section living-room, and five balcony doors! AND a roof terrace? Earlier i have stayed in smaller flats in Luxor for around 300 a week (one bedroom, and kitchen and livingroom in one room.)Also clean and nice.

Also in Hurghada and Cairo I have stayed in flats for around 60 per day.

What about letting your friend look up a few alternatives to choose from?

well furnished appartments of harbour view sometimes charge much more than 3000 LE a month , specially in peak summer time (June - July - August) ..
of course you can get another one for less than 1000 LE a month
what i want to say is it really depends on the appartment itself, the location , and the quality of the furniture ..can you tell where that appartment is located ?

Does sound very expensive. For that price you would get a very nice room or even a suite in a good hotel as it is not during the summer.

100 LE a day, (20 US dollars) that does NOT sound expensive for good appaertment, Although I never stayed @ an appartment in Alexanderia, I used to pay more than that in Cairo. Just curious a suite for 100 LE in a good hotel!! are you serious?

There is some thing wrong in this frendship, either you have no faith in your friends what so ever or he is steeling from you. either way you two are not friends.

How much did you have in mind

re up, doctor38

Please read posts CAREFULLY before making any comments, espcially personal ones. I'm NOT talking about a suite in a posh hotel but a one-bedroom apartment in a residential area for locals.
The comments on the quality of my friendships was utterly redundant and definitely discouraging from any further use of this forum, not to mention it is none of your business. The only help I asked was about the prices - if you can't say anything useful about that, don't say anything at all.
Thanks anyway,
C.

Well, you were the one suggesting that your friend takes commission.

Yes, and for that reason I asked for your advice on prices, not opinions on my relationships. That matter I will handle myself.
Anyway - a big "thank you" to all of you who were willing to help out.
Regards,
C.

The suite comment was direct to swiss who mentioned it, not to you. Please read his replay carfully.

As far as the comments I made regarding friendship were very relavent to your post. If he is your friend than there is a trust issue. If some from the street gives that figure for an appartment than I would question and I would be suscpecious but if he is your friend than may be you ought to give him some creidet and have little faith. If he your friend trust him, if not than don't.

That price is near the upper limits but certainly within the range. I am sure that your friend knows you more than us and he felt you'd like some thing nice.

I don't understand How can my comments be personal when I don't know you personally. We live in different continents and we'll probably never meet. we are all announemous (sp?) I mean common dont be offended. We dont know each other.

Cocoa, I think you have over-reacted. Doctor was clearly referring to my posting and I feel that his comments on friendships were perfectly in order considering your own opening question.

Right, sorry, no offence taken.
I just thought it was quite clear the remark about my friend was meant to sort of set the scene and indicate what kind of information I am asking for, and not to invite a discussion on whether the two of us are or are not real friends or to what extent, LOL:) Really, it's quite a surreal experience to post somewhere for the first time and find the next day that what is being commented on is my "faith in my friends" (please, notice the generalising tone of the plural form here) ;P

As a matter of fact, I happen to have had this sort of 'money issue' with another 'friend' while diving in Sinai some time ago, so that kind of puts me on guard now. I'm more than willing to pay anybody any commission for their efforts and time, but I just want to know what exactly I stand on.

Anyway, just to end the whole thing, I guess Doctor38 might be pleased to know that I've decided to let my friend choose whatever he thinks suitable. And if - just IF ;) - I do get tricked out of some money, I hope sooner or later Allah will take care of justice being done ;)

Best regards,
C.

And to look at it from another angle, if your friend takes a 200 - 300 LE commission, maybe his favour was worth it.

Will That was magnanimus of you to appologize. you geniuanly felt that I crossed the line in my comments and I am sorry because my coments made you uncomfortable and offended. I certainly did not mean that. I hope you'll accept my appologies.

Don't put much waight on my grammer and linguistic skills because English is my second langauge and I think this will apply to others so don't read much into these sutble incidental ranting of posters

please let us know what will result from this trip and what did you think about the appartemnt

Hi Raffies!!

Hehehe yes I see your point! I had a friend in Hurghada who got a 50 LE commission in a perfumeshop he took me to? He told me after, and asked me if I wanted them... He told me straight out that the owner gave him commission. We split the 50 and are friends still ;)

re Doctor38

Update: It seems that my friend finally understood that if I say I'm NOT looking for a 3-room flat (which I obviously don't need for such a short stay) in some super posh neighbourhood, then I probably really mean it, LOL:)))
Having got that clear, apparently he's found something nice and fitting, and this time the price is actually suprisingly low, especially compared to those 1200 LE.
Anyway, it turns out the one with whom "there is something wrong in this friendship" was myself and, indeed, I'm really ashamed of that (although, on the other hand, more than happy to know that I was wrong:).
Thanks to everyone for your help:)
