| Pula | Pula in January? Posted: Tue October 24, 2006 06:44 PM UTC
I've booked flights to Pula for a couple of nights in January - will there be enough to do for two days, at that time of year? We're planning on visiting the amphitheatre (obviously) but what's the weather usually like? Is it likely to snow?!
Also, has anyone got a recommendation for a nice, not too pricey hotel, preferably in the city centre. We don't mind walking everywhere but it's best if the hotel is fairly central! Also, would it be worth taking a day trip to Rovinj? What's the public transport like & would it take long? We spent a couple of family holidays in Rovinj back in the 70s & I'd love to see what it's like now. |

You can see most of Pula in one day. I'd recommend a daytrip to Porec.
Thee are several direct buses from Pula to Rovinj and to Porec every day.

Take worm cloths because in case of "bora" (very cold northern wind) it might be very cold. The temperature is around 0 degrees but under bora it makes you feel it is bellow 0. As for snow, it isn't likely.
I recommend hotel Riviera, which is 300 mt. from the amphitheatre (check my Pula page). For the next day, I recommend half-day trip to NP Brijuni (take lacal bus to Fazana and than by the boat to archipelago of Brijuni) or Rovinj which is considerate the most beautiful coastal town in Istria. Welcome and enjoy your stay.

I dont know if the message went thru but I suggest that if you are flying Ryanair to book a Hertz rentacar at Pula airport. Price- 20-30 euros a day.
Public transportation around Pula and to Rovinj, Porec is not that great since everyone uses the car and everything is within 20 minutes. If you book a car, I suggest booking an apartment. In January you can find them for 20-30 euros a day at most. This way you have a kitchen etc. Other than Rovinj and Porec, you could visit small mideaval towns in central Istria like Hum (the smallest town in the World) There are very nice agriturismo to stay there too. Also you could drive down to Premantura, and then visit the very end of the Istrian peninsula. It is a protected area, very nice scenery.
