Paris Opera National de Paris - Evening Wear?
Posted: Sun October 22, 2006 12:32 AM UTC
We have tickets to the Opera for New Years' Eve. Dress is to be Evening Wear.

What does this mean?

Black tie for men? Is a dark blue suit okay?

Evening gown for women? Would a black elegant trouser suit be okay?

Black tie means dinner jacket (tuxedo) for him, and for you an elegant evening dress. But I don't suppose that the clothes police will be too much in evidence. Enjoy!

Unless you have orchestra seats, dark blue suit and elegant trouser suit would be fine . . . except this is New Year's Eve and will be more formal than usual. The tux and evening gown might be more appropriate unless you have balcony seats. The seats really do make a difference as to what you can wear. If you've been told evening wear, it means evening wear so I assume you have very good seats. I'm jealous!

Have a great time.

That is too funny...we just clicked 'purchase' AND THEN we saw "evening wear"...so of course we googled what that meant, and came across your posting! We too are going to the new year's performance. My husband does not have a tux, he will be wearing a dark suit...hopefully we will be sitting near to each other and can stick out like sore thumbs together! Where are you traveling from? We are going to Paris from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Safe travels!
