Montaņita Moving to Montanita
Posted: Thu October 19, 2006 04:30 PM UTC
Hi All!

I am planning to move to Montanitas for about half a year so I am looking for any information anyone can give me! What should I expect to pay for a small apartment or place to live per month? (The cheaper the better) Eating costs? How is the nitelife? Prices? Saftey? etc. Is the water warm? Beaches clean? How is the weather from jan-june?

Any tips you may have would be wicked!!!
Thank You!!

i am quite jealous! montanita is paradise! you choose a good time to go. from jan-jun it is normally hot or warm, sometimes cloudy, but it doesn't rain often. in june it starts to get colder. the water is always warm and the beach is really clean.
montanita is one of the safest place in ecuador. but still don't act like a rich tourist. walking alone through montanita by night should be no problem. but sometimes they try to get into your room and steal things...
the prices may be alittle higher than elsewhere in ecuador. but still it is very cheap. food in the main street is perhaps a bit "expensive", but there are alot of other little ecuatorian restaurants one street further down where you can have lunch for 2$...
the nightlife from montanita is the best from ecuador!!!! hhhm, actually not always. during high season (december/january or when there is a national holiday) yeahhh! once a month there is a full moon party which is very famous and people come from everywhere. during week it can be calm sometimes.

my ex-boyfriend lived in montanit during 4 months. first he lived in an apartment with his brothers and than he rented a room for himself. i cant remember how much the apartment costed, but for the single room with toilet he paid 50$ a month! if you ask in a hotel for a discount for a long stay it should be around 100-130$. if you wanna rent a room or apartment you should go to the part of montanita where the locals live and where not alot of hotels and tourists are. if you come from the south (from guayaquil) it is the beginning of montanita. there they rent rooms and apartments everywhere. just ask the people on the street...

enjoy montanita!

Thank You SOOOO much for you reply Daniela!! Your advice and info were exactly what I was looking for!! I lived in Costa Rica for half a year before and I was looking for something similar but maybe a little less touristy as Costa Rica is quickly becoming overtaken by tourists.Sounds like Montanita is going to be amazing! You should come down!! lol!

Thanks again....
Lisa
