New York City getting around NYC w/ music gear
Posted: Thu October 19, 2006 09:39 AM UTC
are there specific cab companies that are better suited to deal with musicians and their gear within Manhattan? it would be an awful pain dragging keyboards and stands on the subway i would imagine. not too mention it sounds rather unsafe.

wish it was that simple.. i'm talking about a week in new york playing a bunch of shows all over town going from hotel to venue then back to hotel, to a new venue the next day and so on.. i don't imagine the hotel's shuttles do that for just anyone.

but thank you for responding.

I would suggest phoning a cab company and explaining your needs. It might be possible to have one cabbie following your itinerary and you may be able to carry that phone # to contact him to pick you up when you are just about ready to move on.

I don't know about Taxi, but call a car service. They usually have better prices, and you can probably request that they handle large equipments. They usually give you a fixed quote as well.

Also, I don't know how much gear you have, but the % of taxis that are SUVs and caravans these days is pretty good. So, you could decide, esp. at the airports, to wait until you are able to hail down one of the larger taxis. It'd be cheaper but could be a risk late at night after a gig. Just thought you'd like to know that there are many larger yellow taxis running around these days. So that may be an option.

Have you tried Supershuttle, you can get them online or when you get to the airport they have desks you can locate quite easily, the last time I used them there were 3 frenchmen with a lot of equipment as they were going around America filming a documentary.
Hope this helps.
