Uruguay What to vist up country?
Posted: Thu October 19, 2006 05:52 AM UTC
After a few days in Montevideo ( Nov. 4th -8th) I have arranged a rental car for 4 days. Besides Punta del Este and Colonia (the first because it is an obviuos drive by and the second because I will see it in transit between Uruguay and Argentina) what sites, towns and even estancias could you recommend I see?

Because of the lack of guidebooks I have spent a lot of time with the internet including VT trying to find places to see and places to stay. It seems that there are lots of estancias and rural hotels but many are not appropriate for a solo traveller, and most do not include pricing or reasonable booking information. Can I find and book these places through some agency after I arrive in Uruguay?

I will really appreciate any VT help you can give me. bob

I know there's this agent in Montevideo, but the webpage is under construction. You can phone or fax them to make contact:

Good luck,

I'm posting a little late, but I hope I can be of some help:

There's this guidebook of Uruguay called "Guía Guambia de Turismo", it's very good, you can find it in some abitab branches, some bookstores like "papacito", and this big supermarket called tienda inglesa (which also has many branches).
If you wish to get the information before you get here they have a webpage : www.turismoguambia.com.uy
However, both the guidebook and the webpage are in spanish so if you don't speak the language they have an e-mail: info@guambia.com.uy .
They are really nice and I'm sure they'll do whatever possible to help you
