There are lots and lots of places to have piercings all over the UK. Many/most jewellers do them (many of these are large chains) as well as some department stores, and tattoo parlours of course. Most are perfectly fine; they wouldn't stay in business long if they weren't. I'd choose a large-ish shop on a main shopping street(although belly-piercings are very prone to infection, so proper after-care is vital). You may have to make an appoinmtent in some places.

When you're here I'll take you to a good place... lol... really though Eclipse in Camden is one of the best places for piercings. But i doubt you'll find a place that uses a gun like an ear piercing because the amount of skin is too much... instead they usually clamp the skin (which is what causes some of the bruising afterwards. then they use a plastic spikey tube thing that they put through then cut the end off leaving it hollow to put the bar through.

The piercing WILL be very painful for approx a week or two and will still be very delicate... the worst part is that it'll go purple for a bit too... but honestly get it done either at the begining of you visit maybe ruining your stay... or at the end... but then you have to worry about the flight. The piercing will also need to be kept very clean... so you'll have to keep washing it with salt water (saline) at least 3 times a day at the begining...

the other bad thing is, most of the time it never completely heals... meaning if you take it out for a couple of days it starts to heal up, but if you do decide to take it out... you'll be left with a tiny scar, no matter what anyone says... I'll show you mine when you're here... but i only know all this because when i was younger piercing everything was normal in my group of friends... lol

oops forgot about the price... the piercing with a bar for most places used to cost between £20-£25 but i'm not sure how much this may have increased over the last few years...

if you're a bit scared of going into camden and need someone to go with you down there though just give me, nat and amani a call we'll gladly help you out

well in all honesty you'd be better off with a bar... rings tend to get caught on things and tear... or worst still when you're wearing pants the ring doesn't stop getting pressure put on it... which in the first few weeks is really painful...

I should be able to meet up with you guys on the sunday, but I have a photography assignment on saturday and they have yet to let me know how long this will take.

I think amani has something special for you on the sunday though :)

but honestly if you need someone to come with you to give you a bit of courage, then don't worry we'll be there to push you through the door and lock it behind you lol...

it doesn't hurt when they're actually doing it... just the clamp... its later on that you'll feel it...

but really give me a call if you need some support lol

You can't have a navel piercing by gun! In fact many places are reluctant to pierce your ears with a gun these days...it's not a great piercing method. They will clamp the skin, which numbs the area, then they should mentally prepare you before they actually pierce you. I had mine done in Cold Steel in Camden, (020 7267 7970) and I didn't actually find the pain too bad as the operators there were so helpful in helping you deal with the pain (the key is visualisation and processing the pain as a positive experience) I've seen people get pierced elsewhere and scream the place down though...I guess it's the same as childbirth. Some people cope and some make a fuss.

I agree with Gareth that a ring is not a good plan in the first instance. Once it's healed you can switch to a ring if you want one, but it is tender when you first have it done. I wore big baggy dresses for about 3 weeks while it was healing...and as I hadn't told my mum I'd had it done she thought I was pregnant!!

thanx jules for ur input..the thing is i can tolerate pain, but it`s the needle that scares me the most.
plus i was wanting to go back to my exercising routine after the holy month of Ramadan(which ends in couple of days)but i read that with pierced belly a person should not do any exercising for about 2-3 weeks.

The needle doesn't look like a needle though...it's curved and very non threatening. Plus they're quite good about not flashing it about in front of you. Maybe make an appointment to go and chat to the consultant beforehand. They like that...it shows you're taking the issue seriously. They don't like "spur of the moment" piercees...they like to be sure you've considered it and are happy to go ahead before they make a hole in you ;)
