| Torino | White Christmas in Torino Posted: Thu October 19, 2006 05:00 AM UTC
My friend and I will be in Torino around x-mas. We are hoping to see the x-mas lights in the city, and maybe even ski for a day.
Where is a good place to stay? Most youth hostels have kitchens, and since it is x-mas(and maybe everything is closed? Is it?), we were planning to cook. A budget(I'm a student!) place with a communal kitchen would be good. Thank you. |

Try this resource:
http://www.hostelz.com/hostel/7662-Ostello-di-Torino-Hostel This one should be open by Xmas. Well, not every Xmas the city is white....but it's charming enough even without snow! Welcome to Torino! Ciao Ant

I've stayed in that hostel. Remember that it closes from December 20th to February 1st each year. It does NOT have a kitchen, cooking facilities or even a fridge to store your own food in. You are served a light breakfast and if you want dinner (about EUR 10) you can reserve in advance. This system isn't great, because if you reserve but nobody else does, they will cancel dinner service. If you're out and about in the city, you'll return to the hostel at dinner time (which is a thirty-minute UPHILL walk from the city center w/ bad transport connections), find out dinner is cancelled and then have to return to the city center to find food!
Unfortunately Torino is terrible for hostels. If you're looking for budget accomodation I highly recommend Hotel Bologna, right in the center (across from Porta Nuova train station). I think a double is about EUR 75 per night. No kitchen facilities. If you want something even cheaper, there is a hotel that I THINK is called Hotel Giulio Cesar (on Corso Giulio Cesar). It's a total dump (and not in the best neighbourhood- don't walk back alone at night!) but it's closer to the city center and much better connected by transport. I doubt it has kitchen facilities (but there are lots of kebab places nearby) .

It might be "Cesare".

how many days are you planning to stay?
I have a mansard that will be available from 29th of November, until 29 of January. I think it would be perfect for you because it is in the very center of the city, pretty, comfortable, with kitchen corner, bathroom with shower. Very small, with two beds, 10 min walk from the railway station (so you can go to mountain by train and ski...). the only problem is that I would like to rent it for the whole period (500 euros for the two months). let me know how many days you would like to stay....bye silvia, you can write to silviaberutti@libero.it
