According to various news reports, the southern Thai dispute may yet take a while to resolve. The revision of policy by the new PM may takes time to work in order for the light of peace to be seen.
Tourist are well aware of the situation and majority had avoided Hatyai since the blast occurred. As for the previous November long week end, Hatyai is unusually quiet (according to some Thai resident friends there). Air tickets during the Christmas / New Year period by Tiger Airways are unexpecting cheap which sell at only $9.98 for certain flights. In my humble opinion, I may not want to risk myself going Hatyai until improvement in the situation is really seen. I believed that the militants may create violence from time to time in order to raise international concern.
