| Guatemala City | Donde puedo bailar Salsa in la Ciudad de Guatemala... Posted: Sat October 14, 2006 03:36 AM UTC
Hello O.o
I'll be traveling to my beautiful Guatemala in December and I wanted to know if some can hook me up with some info. I am devoted to Salsa dancing and I wanted to hit some salsa night-clubs or at least clubs that would play a variety of music, including salsa, to have a good time. Please let me know and thanks in advanced. V/r, Erick |

I'm sure that Guatemala City has a Salsa club somewhere around, and maybe along the Caribbean coastline cities, but don't count on salsa here being as with it as in the Caribbean or South America. My travel experiences in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Southern Mexico found disappointment in this category of entertainment. Traditional music in Guatemala in particular is rather limited to the marimba and snare drum.

There are a few places where they play salsa because of the number of cubans that have migrated to guatemala including musicians and people from other latin countries. About three years ago I went to a cuban club/restaurant on avenida las americas. They have live music some nights. I know of a venezuelan (Gerardo Garcia)who has lived in guatemala for many years he has either a salsa dance school or club. According to the story I read in the paper he also owns the angus steak house. I heard his show on one of the radio stations on a sunday and plays the traditional salsa. So he could also be your best source of informacion. I am a musician myself, loved the traditional cuban music and the old salsa. In fact the gran combo from P.R. and Marc anthony had concerts recently. Good luck.
