Buenos Aires Hiking Boots and shopping
Posted: Fri October 13, 2006 06:14 PM UTC
Hi,

Me and a friend are showing up in Buenos Aires on December 31st and will be in the city for a month. I just had a couple questions about shopping in the city:

-I'm not bringing much stuff with me, but we are backpacking for 6 months and will be heading into some cooler climates later on. Would I be able to find clothes for cooler climates in Buenos Aires or will there only be summer clothes on sale for when we are there?

-Is there a good place to buy hiking boots in Buenos Aires? (how much approximately do they cost?)

Thank you so much!! Very excited!

boots will not be an issue, but depending on your size other things might be. People in BA are very slim and it's hard finding anything larger then a size 12

Hiking boots: in downtown, on Esmeralda Street, halfway between Av Corrientes and Sarmiento Street. It is an old shop, you can get there almost all you need for hiking. Costs about 70 dollars.
Of course, there´s a lot of other places selling the same.

Nice, seems more affordable than North America. So I guess I'll wait until BA until I get my obligatory hiking boots.

Hi,
My information is twenty years old (I'm dating myself here), but back in those days the only decent hiking boots in Argentina were made by Marasco & Speziale, and they were made of leather (HEAVY). Unless things have changed radically, you're better off buying them in the US (I am thinking of light weight materials such as Gore-Tex, that either don't exist in BA, or are expensive).
Chau!
