Why not try the Backpacker Hotel or the camp site if you have tents.
Book as soon as possible, I'm staying at the campsite and they are booking up fast.

Most of the reasonable hotels are mentioned in the VT Accommodation tips for Cardiff.
Have a look at the accommodation listings at visitcardiff:
http://www.visitcardiff.com/Accommodation-in-Cardiff.html
The city centre is very walkable. Any of the B&B's/guesthouses on Cathedral Road or in Riverside are close to the Taff and the Stadium.

thanks for the tip. I do have my tickets already. We watch Canada/Fiji, Wales/Australia and wales/asia qualifier. Is the weather cold at that time? I've only been in the spring. Also how far away is the camping?
thanks again

It an be wet and cold, the camping is about a ten minute stagger.
They do have a room with a fridge and kettle for those with tents, maybe a microwave as well. One block has just been updated so I will check it out next time I go.

Hi Bryan,
Best place is 'Nos Da' (Good night in Welsh!), same owners as Cardiff Backpackers.
It is OPPOSITE the Millennium Stadium and is being converted into a '5* ensuite hostel' i.e. cheap with all the mod cons! It also does excellent food and is right in the centre of town. Book now and you won't be disappointed!
http://www.nosda.co.uk/
Look us up when you get here!
Cheers,
Gwilym

The Travelodge in St Mary Street is right in the centre of town and a stones throw away from the bars & clubs, if you can get a deal there that would be ideal for you. Nos da is only a five to ten minutes walk away from the centre so that would be well suited too.

Wherever you decide I'd recommend you book quickly - hotels are already selling out even though its a year away. If you do find that everywhere decent is booked up, then keep an eye out for news on the Cardiff ETAP hotel - it's a budget 158 room hotel, currently being built and should be open early 2007.

According to our local paper in Cardiff the majority of hotels are now fully booked for the dates of the world cup or are charging ridiculous amounts...anything from £200-600 per night

We were in Nos Da this evening asking about the accommodation for the Rugby World Cup - they have rooms for those time, but you can't book them on the internet yet.
Double rooms for then should be £56 and see if you can ask for a room facing the Millennium Stadium (it's on the opposite side of the river!).
You can book direct:

If you're looking for somewhere just to lay your head there's a place called the Phoenix "hotel" in Llanishen - North Cardiff. It takes about 10 mins by train and 20 mins by bus to get into the centre and a taxi will cost £10. Here's a link to some reviews from tripadvisor - they don't sound too good but it looks as if it's quite cheap and they have a bar and very nice Chinese Restaurant attached.

Sounds crazy, but you could always try camping!
Sept should be fine for camping and this campsite is set in parkland right in the the centre of Cardiff!
http://www.cardiff.gov.uk/content.asp?Parent_Directory_id=2865&nav=2868,4407,4410
They're only quoting £4.25 per person per night! But TRY AND BOOK NOW!!!
Pob Lwc!

The youth hostel is a long way from the city centre and not that easy to reach by public transport. But in a pleasant area of Cardiff.

I have recieved confirmation for Cardiff Uni. It is 20.5 per person per night so way cheaper then any of the hotels. We will be staying for the 14th and 15th. I believe they still have room if you know of anyone still looking. It is about 5K away from the stadium but that is better than Newport.

Try this:

email: conference@cardiff.ac.uk
They used to have a proper website for summer accommodation but I can't seem to find it.
