| Islamabad | Islamabad to Lahore by bus Posted: Tue October 10, 2006 02:39 PM UTC
Hi,
I'll be arriving in Islamabad airport at 2200, a few questions. 1. How far is the Daewoo bus station in Rawalpindi from the airport? And how much does the taxi costs? 2. Will I able to get the Daewoo bus ticket to Lahore directly at the counter without advance booking? 3. any recommended guesthouses near to the airport? Thanks, Reza |

When you get out of arrivals, taxi drivers will surround you. They will ask approx Rs. 300 to 400 for Daewoo bus stop if you want to go directly (yes you can get Daewoo bus 24 hours. They go every hour from Rawalpindi to Lahore). Daewoo bus station is 16 km from Islamabad Airport.
If you want cheaper taxi, you can get it from outside of airport main gate within seconds from the main road. Take your trolly and walk to your left when you come out of arrivals. You will be able to take trolly upto the main gate of airport. Its a small airport and the main gate is barely one minute walk from arrivals. Taxi drivers from the main road outside airport should take not more than Rs. 150. If you want to stay the night in Rawalpindi, ask driver to take you to KFC Rawalpindi (NOT Islamabad). It is 7 km from airport (midway between airport and daewoo bus station). Paradise Hotel is located very near to KFC (approx 100 feet) on the same road. It is a cheaper hotel and is in center of commercial area. Spend the night there and then in morning take taxi from outside of Paradise Hotel to Daewoo bus stop. It will cost Rs. 100 from there. Plenty of taxis outside hotel and price bargaining. The hotel stay per night will not be more than Rs. 800 (you can negotiate there too).

The internet sight of Daewoo is
http://www.sammi.com.pk/ you can check the fare, time, also how to make a reservation. I have tried the Daewoo bus from Bahawalpur to Islamabad, and it was quite comfortable with security guard. There is a taxi counter at Islamabad airport. They call it " Avis lenta car" but it is airport taxi actually. If you are tired to argue and bargain with taxi driver, or want to ride on registerd trustable driver, try it. Fare is a bit expensive. maybe around 500 to 700 Rupee to Rawalpindy or Islamabad. you can buy the safety and comfort. But in Pakistan usually you can trust taxi driver. They are honest and so far I never had bad experience with them looking back my 6 times visits so far.

1. As mentioned above the taxi from Islamabad airport to the Rawalpindi Daewoo Station will cost approx. 300 to 400 Rupees (depending on your negotiation skills)
2. Yes, you can get the Daewoo ticket directly at the counter without advance booking, but only if seats are available. Otherwise you can get yourself waitlisted at the counter and will eventually get a ticket quite easily if it's not a busy time of the day. 3. I don't know about any guesthouses, but one has been recommended to you anyway.

Daewoo is definitely the best company to go with but seats were not available at 12.30AM just 2 weeks ago. We booked the return trip from Lahore to Isb and on advice from Daewood didnt purchase tickets until we arrived at bus station. When we did arrive they'd sold our tickets and we had to go by Naizi which i dont recommend. So, please purchase tickets at time of booking. Daewoo service is excellent and comfortable. All the best.
