Rabat Eid el-Adha
Posted: Tue October 10, 2006 03:43 AM UTC
I was thinking of traveling to Morocco arriving Dec 23 in Casa and departing Jan 2 possibly from Marrakesh... The tentative itinerary was to spend 1 day in Casa and pruchase train tix to Fes... stay in Fes 2 or 3 days and back train to Rabat. Stay one day and fly or train to Marrakesh.. fly out of Marrakesh oin Jan 2 back to USA. However, Eid el-Adha falls tis yr Jan 30 to Jan 1 and reading other posts and http://www.triotours.com/faq/ma/christmas.htm it warns about trouble of traveling during that time. Part of the difficulty is being unable to purchase train tix from outside Morocco and not until days before expected day of travel.. Afraid trains will be booked and I will end up not being able to reach my desired destination.... Any experience on the holiday closings and travel disruptions?... I would prefer if u e-mail reply to rosakontos@gmail.com THANKS!

According to your itinerary that would put you in Marrakesh by the 28th. There shouldn't be any trouble getting Marrakesh then, if you want to hedge your bets, skip the day in Rabat and go from Fes to Marrakesh directly on the 27th. Other options are to, 1) Book a taxi from Fes to Marrakesh (around 2000 dhs) or 2), hire a car and do the drive yourself. Will probably be slightly more expensive than option one but you could then afford to take that day in Rabat or make a stop somewhere else on route.

I am traveling as well during this time. what is this Eid el-Adha holiday? We planned on arriving on the 20th, then going straight to Merzouga for a desert hike. From there we planned on going to Fes for a couple days then finally to Marrakesh for the last several days (12/30 - 1/3). Do you think we will have trouble getting around? We planned on using the train and bus system as our funds are limited.

thanks,
A
