Austin looking to move - what are the neighborhoods?
Posted: Mon October 9, 2006 07:24 PM UTC
Hi there fellow VTers - I'll be moving from san francisco to austin for acupuncture school. It's basically Anderson/Mo-Pac - I'm looking to move between there and downtown. What are the neighborhoods to search for in that area? I can't seem to find a good map or descriptions of hoods. I'd like to be somewhere where people walk/ride bikes and has (some) local neighborhood amnemities - ie restaurant, coffee shop etc or the like.

by the way - thanks to all the local VT pages! Had a great time there in sept based on all your recommendations!!

Many many thanks for your info!

Hi Aga,
A friend of mine went to Traditional Chinese Medicine School in Austin, so I'll ask her your question and get back to you.

You would probably love the Hyde Park area, very active, very young and has some great little cafes.

Its north of downtown and a little southeast of where you will be attending school.

Another good area is down by Lake Austin near Magnolia Cafe. Pease Park is also a good place for active biking and walking.

You are definitely coming to the right town for an active atmosphere!

Hi Aga,

I've been to Austin once and it is beautiful and hilly so you will feel at home there. You may want to try www.NeighborhoodResearch.com as a first step in checking out neighborhoods in Austin. I used them to help find my apartment here in San Diego and it basically kept me in a nice but affordable area. Best of luck on your move! Felicity
