Jiddah RE: New To Jeddah: Place to Live?????

When I first came to Jeddah 5 weeks ago, I was looking for a 2-3 bedroom apartment in a quiet area.

People at work and friends showed me around 12 different accommodations, but I eventually found a place myself as I was walking up and down some streets in the area I wanted to live. Found a new building, and spoke to the caretaker who took me to see the landlord.

It depends on your budget, which area you want to live, and whether you would go fo furnished or unfurnished place, and also if you want to live in a compound.

Guideprice annual rent, according to what I saw
2 bedroom furnished in compound SAR40000 ,Fair Condition
3 bedroom unfurnished SAR 18000 - 24000 ,Fair Condition
3 bedroom unfurnished in a unique 2 storey building, SAR32000, Good Condition
5 bedroom NEW unfurnished , detached villa SAR 70000, Very nice!
2 bedroom , NEW, unfurnished SAR18000-SAR24000 , Nice. This is where I am living. There are 12 apartments in my building, and since its so new, only 2 are occupied so thats nice and quiet.

Bear in mind that furnishing the apartment might cost SAR10000-SAR30000 depending on your budget and size of your place of course. It is much more economical to select an unfurnished place if you are planning to stay for more than 1-2 years. If you dont know anyone, or you have a family and also work long hours, compound is better. I prefer not to stay in a compound as I know a few friends who live within minutes from where I live, plus I finish work at 1pm
so its not bad for my family as I can take them out in the afternoons/evenings.

So look around, ask around and there are also estate agents out there to help you out.

Hope this helps

Jiddah Places to live

being single you might have a problem finding a place off of a compound as many places only rent for families (also depends on your age... if you are older then you have no problem, if you are younger then they might not rent to you). still you should be able to find a place if you look hard enough. I would recomend a one or two bedroom apartment, unfurnished. cost from 15-23000 SR a year. the ranges above sound resonable. on a compound a one bedroom apartment is around 35-50000 a year. in the end it depends on your budget. if you work at a bank (IDB most likely) then transportation is a must as south of jeddah isn't the nicest place to live.
