| Mesa | Mesa, AZ: Cheap places to stay Posted: Mon October 2, 2006 09:13 PM UTC
I'm considering a visit to Mesa, Arizona and I'm looking for hostels or budget hotels to stay. Any advice would be highly appreciated! Please write to dandancho@yahoo.co.uk

There are no hostels in Mesa, unless the Mormons have something worked. The only hostel in the Phoenix area that I'm aware of is the HI near Downtown, which is a good place, but not in the best neighborhood.
There are some total dives/dumps in Mesa, mostly along Main Street, so you need to stick to the chains. In that collection of dumps, there is a Motel 6 (about $40/night) there as well as closer to US 60, but both of which aren't in great neighborhoods. There's also a cluster around Superstition Springs Mall, but they're more expensive. I'd strongly suggest staying in either Tempe or even in northern Phoenix because the motels and neighborhoods are not as rough, and use Hotwire which typically yields rooms in the Phoenix area at very nice hotels for about $40. Hope that helps.
