Hello VT friends,

what would you suggest to be the best way to get from Odessa to Yalta?
Is it possible to do it by sea?

Thank you!

When i was there last year we also wanted to go by boat (other way around). And apparently there is one but only during the summer months. If the boat no longer goes, you can take the overnight train to simferopol ( i think it is, the main city on the peninsula) and from there take a bus to Yalta.

I just made this trip 3 weeks ago. No boats to Yalta from Odessa this year, they say. By air or train, you have to go to Simferopol and then take taxi or bus to Yalta. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a flight so we took the train. About 1 hour by air and 12 1/2 hours by train. Also, unfortunately, no first class or second class cabins were available (so they said) so we traveled whatever class which gives you a shelf to lie on. They say this is not recommended travel for tourists but I was glad I experienced it. They also will charge you 8 hryvnia for clean sheets and pillowcase. Pay it. They give you a bed roll and pillow. But traveling this way is okay if you hang out in the restaurant car. We got a taxi from Simferopol train station to Yalta for 130 hryvnia (which is about $24). Going back to Simferopol was about 250 hrvnia. The taxi drive is about 2 hours.

I have done this journey on numerous occasions.
I agree with previous comment about the time it takes.
However it depends on time of year you wish to travel. In summer sometimes it is impossible to get tickets, but now the season has finished it should be ok both for train and airplane.
In Simferopol the bus station is alongside the train station and there are plenty of buses to Yalta and very reasonable, far less than a taxi.
It depends on your sense of adventurism on which way you decide.
