| Arctic | USA to Russia Posted: Fri September 29, 2006 01:13 AM UTC
Me and one of my friends are on a road trip in The States until last December, we've bought a Chevrolet van, and instead of just taking a flight home, we've thought about driving through Canada, to Alaska and then take a ferry to Russia. Does anyone know if that is possible, and also if it is possible to transport a car from US to Russia and taking it cross-country, through Finland and down?
Any answer to clear my mind would be really nice!! - Hani |

Hey, that's a great idea! Just one little problem though...
...there's no such "ferry to Russia" from Alaska. "D'oh!"

Check out the DVD documentary, "Long Way Round" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403778/
I recommend the DVD over their book. The DVD is quite entertaining and addictive whereas, in my opinion, those guys are poor writers. Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman went on a motorcycle trip covering the same ground going the other way. They also had two support (rugged 4-wheel drive) vehicles. They air-shipped the vehicles from Magadan to Alaska. They had planned this trip for about a year beforehand, had support staff, a formal project manager, and a seemingly unlimited budget. There are other folks who have done similar trips, usually by motorcycle and with no huge budget, that can be found on the Internet.
