Shandong Sheng Tai Shan --- > Huang Shan or Emei Shan ?
Posted: Thu September 28, 2006 01:45 AM UTC
Hi VTers ,

Would appreciate if someone can help me as to how I can get to Tai Shan from Beijing .

1) What are the options of transportation to Tai Shan and how long and how much
it takes ?

2) And from there is there any flights to Chengdu as I would like to visit
the Emei Shan. How much would that cost ?

3) Or should I go to Huang Shan which is in Anhui ( nearer than Chengdu )

4) Do they have cable cars / bus ride up to those mountains ( Tai Shan, Huang Shan & Emei Shan ?

Thank you ..

regards

I know there are regular trains (overnight?) that goto Tai Shan. Once you arrive the entrance (well one of them) is about 10mins by taxi. You can walk to halfway (not a bad walk, little steep towards the end) or get a bus. After this point it's very steep.

If you have the time, consider staying at a hotel at the top and being around for sunrise.

You can check out flights at http://elong.net

Huangshan would be a better option, in my opinion, from TaiShan.

1) For the train to Taishan. You can two choices, you can either take local train to Taishan local station, which should be closer to Taishan, in about 7 hours. Another choice is to take express train to Ji'nan, then take bus to Taishan from there. The express train, T35, is only 4 and half hours. The bus should be about 1 hour.
2) You can fly to anywhere from Ji'nan. It's close to Taishan. Check flight price at:
http://english.ctrip.com
http://www.elong.net
It changes often, no one can predict.
3) I think Huangshan is better. Emei is famous for its buddhism temples, Huangshan is famous for its sightsees. There is a saying, if you have visited Tai, Hua, Heng, Heng, Song five mountains, you don't need to visit any other mountains; if you have visited HuangShan, then you don't need to visit Tai, Hua, Heng, Heng, Song five mountains.

1)it's better to take the train k51/k101 from beijing which may stop at taishan, costs you rmb224 for the soft sleeper class.
2)the full fare for the flight between jinan(1 hour from taishan by bus/train) and chengdu is rmb1360 plus airport&oil fee,you may find the discounted price depends on the season;
3)good choice to visit huangshan, all 3 mountains you mentioned are world natural & cutural heritages
4) they all have cable cars: for taishan, there is bus service form dai temple to zhongtian gate,then cabel car service provided from zhongtian gate to the top; for huangshan, there are 3 cabel car lines but you have to walk; for emei shan, you may take the bus from baoguo temple to leidongping, then take the cabel car to the top.

Hi dear all ,

Thank you so much to the info ... I like the chinese proverbs ...what is it in chinese ? well the reason why I am going to Tai Shan this time is because my uncle whom I taking with , is a devout Taoist ..so Tai Shan being the holiest or most significant Taoist mountain of all other Taoist mountains in China ...the selection becomes apparent.

Interesting to know that none of the 4 Holy Buddhist Mountains ( Wutai Shan , Jiu Hua , Emei Shan ....except Putou Shan which is more like an island than mountain )make it to the list in the proverb mentioned by enzhu and so is Wudang Mountain...any comments ?

Note that you mention Heng twice , I supposed one is Heng San , whats the other one.

Well , have to say that as a Buddhist I hope to visit all the 4 Buddhist Mountain ( or Bohdi Mandala )in China as well as the other 4 Taoist Mountain plus Wudang and Huang Shan ...hmmmm..that makes it 10 all together haha

Anyway thank you very much for the info

well, for taoist, it's better to visit longhu mt. in jiangxi province, taishan you've mentioned, wuyi mt. in fujian province, laoshan at qingdao, shandong province, and qingcheng mt. at dujiangyan, sichuan province as well as hengshan in hunan province(there are two hengshan in china but different writing in chinese characters, another in shanxi province).
tao and budda exist together at some mts. such as wuyi mt.(world natural&cultural heritage and famous for the orinin of chinese tea), songshan where is fomous for shaolin kongfu;
i do recommend you to visit longhu mt., wuyi mt., and qingcheng mt., but the best season for these is spring for longhu and wuyi, summer for qingcheng.
