| Porto | Porto/Fatima to Santiago de Compostela Posted: Mon September 25, 2006 11:45 AM UTC
Dear Friends! I need your advice how to get from Porto (actually Fatima) to Santiago de Compostela in a guickest way. I found at http://www.cp.pt/ that there is a suitable train from Fatima to Valenca (8:19 - 14:28, 12:46 - 18:21) but I am not sure how to get to SdC from Valenca. This is probably regional feature of railway sites.
Any other oportunities with travel by bus or train overnight from Fatima, Porto or Salamanca? Thanks. Yuri. |

hi not much help to your answer but was wondering if you could help me!! iam trying to decide whether to go to spain and portugal - mostly portugal via madrid as i want to see toledo or avila or salamanca on the way - and then around portugal. maybe fatima for the big pilgrimage. is that why you are going from porto to fatima? and is there something special on at santiago around similar time?
do you think that area is nice in oct or might be still more pretty down south of naples to take advantage of down there. or elsewhere? thanks

This time I decided to visit some sites aside of major tourist routes and selected major pilgrimage places: Zarragoza, Avila (+ Toledo), Fatima, and Santiago de Compostela. Don't have time for Guadalupa, need full day trip. Check why these places are so attractive for pilgrims and you will understand what cultural (if you are not interested in religiuos) value they have. I am doing this at the beginning of October.

Hello
Just a little warning, fatima train station is about 25km from the town. I think you'll be best served if you pick the bus to Porto(www.rede-expressos.pt)I checked and there is a bus going to Porto almost every hour and take about 3 hours to get there costing 12.5 euros. After getting to Porto I think you can get to Santiago very easily. Good luck nice trip.

Hi again, yes are you aiming for fatima on the 12th and 13th of october? i am aware that these are the huge pilgrimage days. what about santiago de compostela - any particular dates for there. have read about but not much written so far. fatima seems the biggest event where hundreds and thousands might visit.
i went to guadelupe in april for a look and stayed a night in the hotel thats in part of the monastery. was very nice. 45 euro not too expensive really for the quality and atmosphere of the hotel.

also what about thinking about getting a car? check out www.holidayautos.com or co.uk and not too expensive in a way for the ability to maximise your time and visits to places a bit tricky to get to. and duck off into estrela or pineda geres or get to the barcelos markets between your visit to fatima and santiago , get to the best roman ruins in portugal near coimbra etc!
